Top Tips: Fine Details
Sue Locke, style writer for SewingWorld magazine, shares some more top fashion tips. This time, there ar some ideas for updating existing garments and adding a little panache to others.
1. SHIRT TALES
Want to add some instant shape to a wide shirt then sew two ties either side of the centre back seam and then knot together or tie in a bow.
2. TOP IT ALL
Add a feminine touch to a colourful camisole by dyeing strips of lace the same colour and then stitching it over the straps and around the neckline.
3. NIGHTS IN WHITE SATIN
Ring the changes on a black evening dress by adding a length of white satin. Shape the ends of the fabric to a point so that it can be draped around the neck and gently knotted just above the waist.
4. ALL AT SEA
If you like this summer's nautical look stitch four buttons either side of the centre front seam on back or side closing trousers

5. BAG IT
Look out for unusual but good quality T-towels on holiday. Stitch two together and by using colourful canvas for straps you have an instant tote bag.
6. FLOWER POWER
A holiday in the sun demands a floppy hat. Don't leave the base of the crown plain, cover it with glued-on felt flowers or an assortment of rhinestones.
7. THE GOLDEN TOUCH
Convert plain straps on sundresses and tops by covering them with strips of gold braid.
8. LOOKING GOOD
Make several pairs of pyjamas in floral Tana lawn before you go on holiday then if you're tempted to breakfast on the balcony you'll be prettily dressed.
9. SUITS YOU
Want to create a mark of distinction on your swimsuit then embroider the top edge of a plain-coloured all-in-one.
10.ON THE FRINGE
Show off tanned legs by adding colour-matched fringing to the hem of short straight skirt. |
