How To

resyling tips for summer fixes

Add a new twist to existing garments or make something new that’s a little different. Sue Locke provides the top 10 tips

1. Make a simple tunic top special by drawing a handkerchief hem onto your fabric using tailor’s chalk.

2. Long dresses look good with flat shoes so why not spray them gold for a little more impact.

3. Good quality t-shirts that need a lift can be re-worked with a fashionable tie-dye effect. Look online to see how it’s done.

4. A panelled top can look very effective if you work those panels with a mixture of black and printed fabric.

5. If you find the new military look a little bland offset those army colours with shots of a tortoishell, or a leopard print. Use the prints on pockets, belts and collars.

6. Long flowing tunics look best with tapered rather than wide-leg trousers. Adjust your wide-legs if that’s all you have in your wardrobe.

7. If you’ve a length of vintage print that isn’t enough for a garment then line it with denim or strong cotton and make it into a bag.

8. Never pass up the opportunity to buy beautiful storage boxes. Look in stores like TK Max and use them to house your fabric remnants.

9. Take a tip from top diva Leona Lewis. Cover a simple white dress with a layer of black lace for a truly sensational and original garment.

10. Give a new lease of life to city smart trousers by cutting them off at the knee and turning them into stylish shorts.
