How To

New looks from old

Spring clean your wardrobe with some nifty restyling ideas from Sue Locke.

1.  Make a pretty collar for spring by sewing handmade ribbon roses to a small piece of lace and sewing it to the necklines of a blouse or dress.

2. Give a plain dress a 2010 edge by sewing toning ribbon around the hem and cuffs and stitching around the waist creating a large bow at the front.

3.  Animal prints continue to be popular but too much leopard skin on an outfit can be too much of a good thing. Simply use it for a collar on a coat or denim jacket.

4.  The most stunning headbands around are covered in grosgrain and decorated with crystals. Do it yourself and cover an existing headband for a fraction of the shop price.

. A little red velvet bag with black leather decoration by Prada is over £700. Visit your fabric store and buy some leather off cuts and make your own designer original.

6.  Transform plain pumps by covering them with black lace attached with fabric glue.

7.  A tired leather jacket can be re-worked if you remove the sleeves, cover the shoulders with rhinestones and draw it in with a wide patent belt.

8.  Want a pretty strappy top then look in the nightwear department of your local chain store, add tiny fabric bows and strips of lace for an original finish.

9.  Splashes of psychedelic prints were included in the Spring/Summer collections, find your own vintage pieces and use them for pockets, collars and cuffs.

10. Give drab lace-ups a fashion lift by spraying them gold.
